Rarely consciously perceived, door handles, light and lighting make a significant contribution to our well-being. Only when the basal building technology does not function properly, when the door does not close properly, the door handle jams, the light or bulb flickers or dazzles, does the supposedly inconspicuous building technology come to our attention.

The Oldenburg civil engineer, professional and university lecturer Prof. Dr. Klaus Struve, a sponsoring member of the UHB, has been collecting luminaires and door fittings from the Gründerzeit, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Classic Modern Periods for five decades. The exhibition shows a selection of classic doors, door handles and luminaires from his Zweck & Form collection, including "modern icons" such as the "Gropius door handle" or desk luminaires designed at the Bauhaus in Dessau.
